AbstractPrestige-biased social learning occurs when individuals preferentially learn from others who are highly respected, admired, copied, or attended to in their group. This form of social learning is argued to reflect novel forms of social hierarchy in human societies, and, by providing an efficient short-cut to acquiring adaptive information, underpin the cumulative cultural evolution that has contributed to our species’ ecological success. Abstract Objective To develop parsimonious German scales (CollaboRATEpediatric) to assess shared decision making (SDM) with patients aged 7-18 years, parents and parents on behalf of their children (parent-proxy reports), and to establish comprehensibility and preliminary face validity. Longino’s Theory of Objectivity and Commercialized Research

In this paper, I shall examine Helen Longino’s view on the objectivity of science and study how it can be applied to the evaluation of current scientific practices. By discussing two prominent cases in biomedical research, I articulate some epistemically alarming features of commercialized research and highlight the importance of paying attention to the context of scientific inquiry. In addition, I claim that the examined cases can help uncover philosophically interesting empirical work on extra-scientific mechanisms influencing research practices.

The aim of this article is to bring philosophical thinking closer to practice-based empirical work. Using Martin Heidegger’s philosophy, it offers a bridge between these two worlds, attempting to provide philosophical depth to the findings of a hermeneutic phenomenological study.
